It's called "The Shed" and it too resides in the south, and in Hattiesburg Mississippi.
There are a few differences between Leatha's and The Shed. Leatha's has sweet BBQ and The Shed has a more fiery sauce. It's not just in the BBQ, The Shed also offers some of the best blues south of the delta!
Aside from going there to eat fine Bar-B-Que I often enjoy the talent they bring in. One of those talented musicians I never miss is Bret Mosley ,when he comes to grace our town. I met Bret at The Shed and loved his music. I grabbed both CD's he has out and listen to them in the car and while working at home. He has a very unique style, part country, part blues, and part funky, dobro, hip slappin' funk-rock down home porch music.
His songs contain fun lyrics like, "Since the barn burned down, I can see the moon." Kinda a laid back look at life and where ever it takes you.
The combination of good southern BBQ and Bret Mosley on stage guarantees either a real good time or an effin' damn good time all night and into the morning. Either one. How much fun you have is up to you and your creator, all the atmosphere necessary is present at The Shed.
The Shed does offer something else on the menu. BBQ sausage, and they really know how to fix it. Something you will not find on Leatha's menu. It's known all over the south by BBQ aficionados and biker types. People who frequent this joint are called "ShedHeads" and I'm proud to say I'm one of 'em.
There is another "Shed" in Ocean Springs, MS and it's just as good. Same good food, same fabulous atmosphere. Same good music too! The Shed is a fine place to bring company when they drop by from far away, or just bring yourself for a night of fine food and good blues. It ain't too expensive either.
You'll get plenty to eat and any kind of beer to wash it down. Or try their "Suh-WeeeTee". It's dandy. Leaded or unleaded either one is pretty good. Food comes out in Styrofoam take out even if you plan to stay in. And it is usually brought to you by some fine chick in a Shed Head T-shirt to boot! Can't beat that can ya?
Yes, our little town has great BBQ on either end. Up on Highway 98 or downtown at The Shed, you can't go hungry in Hattiesburg. And you'll meet some fine folks here too.
You can ask my wife, when Bret comes to town we scratch that date off the calender and plan to get fed at the shed. His unique down home music is in a class of it's own! Check out the video below and you will see what I mean. Bret plays venues throughout the south and may be coming to a tavern or joint near you. If so, you'd be wise to take in some of his funk jam live. Bring a few friends and make a night of it. You'll be glad you did!
