The home is built over a water fall, hence the name "Falling Water" and is constructed from materials native to the area. It is said that Wright drew the plans for the home in less than three hours as the client was on his way to view them.
Nestled in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains, FallingWater is surrounded by nature and beauty. We were able to see it in the fall, which is one of the best times to view the home. There are several vantage points to see the house from the outside however no photography was allowed inside the home. You can take pictures leading up to the home and from a point downstream.
We were able to shoot some shaky footage around the home since we had no tripods or monopods and much of it came out okay. The video below is put together from what we could film and photograph.
This is an extraordinary place to visit! There is a welcome area, guided tours and a cafe. Plus the gift shop is filled with several items whereby you can take home a souvenir. It is a pretty good walk down to the home from the entrance and then around it. The tour takes about an hour and you can then go to a look out point to see the home from a great vantage point.
Edith had a wonderful time. This was Mecca for her! Unfortunately since we had to return home on an airplane and baggage was limited, she didn't get to purchase much. But the video, photos and memories will last a lifetime. Notice her little jump for joy at the end of the video!
Enjoy this blog video and please do visit the home if you are in Pennsylvania, it's well worth the trip!
