Great Smoky Mountains And Townsend, TN Trip

My wife and I enjoy every opportunity to go to Townsend, TN! Our first visit was a couple years ago when the Heritage Center hosted the first Renaissance of the Native American Flute Festival. It was a great show and festival with several top Native American Flute players.

They had another last year but then they moved the festival to Arizona. Without an excuse to go back I had resigned myself that I would never see the Heritage Center again. This year the Heritage Center stepped up and had their own smaller flute festival, which in many ways was better that RNAFF. {August 28th}
It is my hope they make this a tradition and have one each year. The Mountain Magic Native American Music Festival was a blast!

While there we visited Cades Cove in the mountains. This is a beautiful 11 mile drive through and around very rustic terran with wondrous vistas, animals, and old structures. There are several places to pull over and take pictures as well as a visitors center with souvenirs.

Later we drove some fantastic twisted roads to Gatlinburg, TN. We visited Cooters and ate at a Texas Steak restaurant. A quick jaunt through Pigeon Forge was enough for us, not being to attracted to the Redneck Las Vegas atmosphere. We only had the weekend and not much time so after some sight - seeing we started the journey home.

Our plan is to go back in the Fall to see the Autumn colors in Cades Cove. Plus there will be a motorcycle ride up there soon. I can't wait to put a bike on those roads!

While in Townsend at the Mountain Magic Music Festival I had the opportunity to Jam with Gareth and other famous musicians. Here is a video of the jam on Facebook.
And here are a few pictures from the trip.
Enjoy,  I hope you get to visit the area soon, you will have a great time!
